Preparing for a test starts long before the test date. In order for students to be successful they should listen carefully to their teacher, complete all class work and homework and ask questions as necessary. Students need to study on a regular basis to become familiar with the materials. The following test strategies are important to be successful on tests.

Tests will always be an important part of your child's life so they need to develop strategies as soon as possible to help them be more successful. A successful child is a happier child.
- Eat breakfast
- Keep a positive attitude and stay relaxed
- Keep your eyes on your own paper
- Write legibly
- Jot down main ideas, information or formulas first so that you can refer back to that info quickly
- Read over the entire test including all directions before starting work
- Plan your time, pace yourself
- Do the easiest questions first
- Complete the harder questions next
- Most statements that are always or never are generally false on a T/F test. If part of a statement is false, the entire question is false
- Eliminate unlikely answers on a multiple choice test
- Cross off answers as you use them on a matching test
- Plan essay questions carefully, do the easiest first, jot down important facts before writing, answer the questions that were asked and begin the answer by restating the question.

- If your child continues to struggle, talk with their teacher or counselor to find out how to help
